The section contains UV-C emitters designed for air disinfection in the through-flow duct of the air handling unit.
The UV lamps are installed on a frame in the air flow section. The section is equipped as standard with an electrical switchboard with ballasts (power supply modules) for the UV lamps, protective components and a terminal block for connection to the measurement and regulation system.
The section is delivered from the factory fully assembled and electrically wired. Power supply and control cables are routed through cable glands.
Each UV lamp is connected separately via a quick connector, enabling easy replacement.
Installation and maintenance of the section with UV lamps may only be performed by a qualified person familiar with the risks of UV-C radiation.
When service doors or panels are opened, the UV lamps must be automatically disconnected from the power supply by the door safety switch. The function of this safety device must be verified during commissioning.
UV-C radiation is invisible and highly dangerous to the eyes and skin. Never perform service or cleaning work while the lamps are switched on!
The electrical wiring and UV lamp control diagram is provided in the appendix “ELECTRICAL WIRING – UV LAMP SECTION” or in the enclosed measurement and regulation system documentation, if included in the delivery.
The section may be equipped with lamp status indication (visual signalling or an output to the measurement and regulation system).
All electrical components are rated for normal operating conditions of the air handling unit (vibration, temperature, humidity).

During first start-up, the following is checked in particular:
Section with UV lamps:
• Function of all lamps – all lamps must light evenly, without flickering.
• Correct reaction of the measurement and regulation system (signals “operation”, “fault”, “door open”).
• Measurement of lamp supply voltage – it must not exceed the nominal value stated on the label.
• Earthing and protection against contact.
• Visual check of lamp cleanliness and fastening.
During operational verification of function, the section must be closed, all service panels secured and the personnel present must be equipped with suitable protective equipment.
Detailed operating instructions and maintenance and service procedures are given in the following paragraphs and in the individual parts of the unit.
Before any service work, the power supply to the section must be disconnected and secured against reconnection. Never look directly into a switched-on UV lamp; UV-C radiation is dangerous to the eyes and skin!
After replacing the lamps, carefully degrease the new tubes (e.g. with isopropyl alcohol) and record the replacement date on the section label.
Check the cleanliness of the UV lamps, the condition of the sockets and the fastening of the lamps on the section frame.
Remove dirt from the lamps with a dry cloth or, if necessary, with a cloth moistened with isopropyl alcohol. Never use abrasive materials that could damage the lamp surface.
Also verify correct lamp operation signalling in the measurement and regulation system (“operation”, “fault” status).
Check power cables, terminal blocks and ballasts. Replace any damaged components immediately.
Replace the lamps according to the interval recommended by the manufacturer (usually after 9000 operating hours). After installing new lamps, clean the surface and record the replacement date on the section label.
