- Safety pressure switches: These components are essential to ensure that the system remains within the permissible operating limits. Before switching on the installation, always check that all electrical connections to these components are correct. Perform a test to verify that the power supply actually switches off when the pressure switch reaches the set value.
- Installation in risk zones: In areas exposed to natural disasters such as earthquakes, storms, tornadoes, floods or tidal waves, the installer or operator must ensure that the necessary equipment is available in accordance with applicable standards and regulations, as our units are not designed for operation under such conditions without appropriate measures.
- Fire resistance: The equipment is not designed to withstand fire. The installation site must comply with the applicable fire protection standards.
- Corrosive atmosphere: In the event of exposure to corrosive effects or products, the installer or operator must take the necessary measures to protect the equipment against damage and ensure appropriate anti-corrosion protection of the equipment.
- Piping support: Provide a sufficient number of supports for the piping according to its size and weight under operating conditions, and design the piping so as to prevent water hammer.
- Safety measures for the refrigeration circuit: Before any work on the refrigeration circuit, the nitrogen pressure with which our units are supplied must be released (for units not factory-filled with refrigerant).
- Professional qualification: Installation and maintenance of these machines must be performed by persons qualified to work on refrigeration equipment.
- Safety regulations: All interventions must be carried out in accordance with applicable safety regulations (e.g. EN 378) and the recommendations stated on the labels and in the manuals supplied with the unit. Access by unauthorised persons must be prevented.
- Surface temperature hazard: Any piping or other components of the refrigeration circuit that are hazardous to people due to their surface temperature must be insulated or marked.
- A1: No flame propagation
- A2L: Mildly flammable
- A2: Flammable
- A3: Highly flammable
If the unit is factory-filled with R410A or R407C refrigerant, classified as A1 (non-flammable, non-toxic), the following safety principles apply.
- The unit must be marked with the refrigerant type and charge quantity.
- Not subject to ADR restrictions.
- Store in a dry, ventilated area away from direct sunlight.
- Installation is not restricted by ATEX zones.
- Installation of a refrigerant leak detector is recommended.
- The technical room must be sufficiently ventilated.
- Before commissioning, perform pressure tests in accordance with EN 378.
- The unit operates with high operating pressure inside the refrigerant circuit.
- Before switching on the power supply, verify refrigerant leak detection using suitable equipment.
- All cable glands must be tightly sealed to prevent water ingress and short circuits.
¶ Maintenance and repairs
- Interventions may only be carried out by qualified personnel.
- Use tools compatible with high-pressure refrigerants.
- Comply with the PED Directive 2014/68/EU and EN 378.
If the unit is factory-filled with R454C, R454B or R32 refrigerant, classified as mildly flammable (A2L), stricter safety regulations apply than for A1 gases. Below is a summary of standards and recommendations based on EN 378 and EN 60079-10-1, including tests and simulations related to flammability risks.
The label with the A2L logo on the product indicates the presence of mildly flammable refrigerant. It also appears on the service connection points.
- Equipment filled with A2L refrigerant must comply with ADR rules, in particular UN 3358.
- UN 3358 transport is not permitted in the Eurotunnel and in category D and E tunnels.
- The transport document must state: UN3358 Refrigerant units 2.1.
- If more than 12 kg of refrigerant is present, the total quantity must be stated.
- Do not approach the container with an open flame or other ignition sources.
- Store the product away from possible ignition sources.
- The product is hermetically sealed and CE marked.
- Correct installation and maintenance eliminate the formation of ATEX zones.
- Installation in ATEX zones is prohibited.
- Ventilation openings, ignition sources or other heat sources according to EN 378 must not be installed near the equipment.
- Before switching on the power supply, verify refrigerant leak detection using suitable equipment.
- All cable glands must be tightly sealed to prevent water ingress and short circuits.
¶ Maintenance and repairs
- Before starting work, perform leak detection using suitable equipment.
- Do not use an open flame or other ignition sources near a unit filled with refrigerant.
- When working with A2L category refrigerants, observe specific measures such as the use of suitable tools and personal protective equipment.
